How Long Does a Floor Coating Actually Last?

A professionally installed polyaspartic floor should outlast your car, your water heater and probably your next two houses. A DIY kit lasts about as long as the receipt. Here's what the difference comes down to.

What shortens a floor's life

  • Acid etching or no profiling
  • Skipping the moisture test
  • Partial flake broadcast
  • A non-UV-stable topcoat
  • Coating over an old failing coating
  • Installing below the product's temperature range without heat
  • Snow chains, steel-edged shovels and dragging sharp steel

What extends it

  • Diamond grinding to a CSP-2/3 profile
  • Polyurea crack and joint repair, ground flush
  • Full-broadcast flake for film thickness and hidden wear
  • A polyaspartic topcoat with anti-slip
  • Squeegeeing slush out in winter so salt doesn't sit
  • A recoat of clear at year 12–15 if the tire lines start to dull — cheap, and it resets the clock

Where the wear shows first

Tire lines, the threshold at the door, and the spot where the trash cans get dragged. On a flake floor, wear on the clear coat is nearly invisible because the flake texture hides it. If it does show, a scuff-and-recoat of the topcoat is a fraction of the original cost and doesn't require removing anything.

Our 15-Year transferable warranty covers peeling, delamination, hot-tire pickup and UV yellowing — the failure modes that shouldn't happen on a properly installed floor. Terms here.
FAQ

Common questions

Will my floor look the same in ten years?

Very close. Polyaspartic doesn't yellow and flake hides wear. High-traffic lines may dull slightly, and a clear recoat brings them back.

Does road salt shorten the life?

Not of the coating — it's non-porous. Salt sits on top and squeegees off. What salt destroys is bare concrete.

Can a floor be recoated instead of replaced?

Yes. A sound polyaspartic floor can be scuffed and topcoated again at any point. That's the whole advantage of doing it right the first time.
